When I joined eQS as an in-house designer, the previous designer had briefly used these characters made by Andrew Rybalko. They had been used in a comic but with very garish colours and no background scenes, just characters in single colour voids, with very little editing to make any character look unique.
One thing me and Jamie (other content designer) wanted to change was to develop these characters even further. We adapted Andrew's characters to make custom ones fitting into our 3 brands, best seen in the social media banners below.
We used these characters more in their respective brands. For example the lab man appears in quizzes in the product itself. And the delivery engineer and trainer appear in videos, mine seen in this portfolio item.
So, for 2020 to send out to our clients we wanted to do a calendar again, and this was a great opportunity to use the characters and scenes even further. Our big conference event this year was going to be pinned on mental health as it's new area of focus. This lead to this combination of the messages of each month being all based on different mental health research we found to boost positivity. And helped us form this clean, cream and dark blue aesthetic, along with the wooden phone stand created a really warm vibe.
Overall creating all these scenes was great! I enjoyed doing research to find the facts, which our marketing manger rewrote to stand alone. And using many of Andrew's assets but also creating my own in his style to make scenes that both reflected the month and more so reflected the different mental health messages we wanted to say.
